Did you know your smile could be in danger when you play hockey? Well, it’s true, even if you just play for fun. This is why your dentist, Dr. Bartholemew Schultz, strongly encourages you to care for your smile this hockey season in Savage, Minnesota. In order to do so, you can use our dentist’s tips.
First, wear a mouthguard. A mouthguard can protect your smile when you suffer a blow to the face, which is common while playing hockey because of the players slamming into each other and the puck flying through the air. Having smile protection is very important because it helps you prevent oral injury. Some oral injuries that are common on the ice include chipped, broken, and knocked-out teeth as well as damaged gums. So, make sure to wear a mouthguard.
Second, avoid drinking sports drinks. Sports drinks are full of sugar, which means that when you drink them, you could develop one or more cavities. You don’t want a cavity, do you? So, do your best to drink water instead of a sports drink or at least rinse your mouth with water after drinking one.
